During January-September 2025, 832.2 thousand tons of flat rolled steel were supplied to the Ukrainian market, which is 13.1% more than in the same period of 2024. This is evidenced by GMK Center calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.
About 50% of imports were coated flat products (HS code 7210) – 409.42 thousand tons, which is 16.5% more than in the same period last year. The main suppliers of products during the period were Turkey – 215.31 thousand tons, Poland – 47.12 thousand tons, and Slovakia – 40.99 thousand tons.
Another 31% of supplies, or 262.37 thousand tons (+3.9% y-o-y), accounted for flat hot-rolled products (HS code 7208). The key source of supplies of these products is Turkey – 209.7 thousand tons. Another 30 thousand tons were imported from China, and 5.48 thousand tons from Italy.
In January-September, 79.31 thousand tons of flat cold-rolled products (HS code 7209) were imported, which is 33.2% more y/y. Turkey imported 59.59 thousand tons of the corresponding products, China – 15.29 thousand tons, and Slovakia – 3.64 thousand tons.
In Q3, import volumes increased by 6.4% year-on-year and decreased by 2.7% quarter-on-quarter to 278.12 thousand tons.
In September, Ukrainian consumers imported 99.83 thousand tons of flat rolled products, which is 39.6% more year-on-year and 14.3% more month-on-month. Shipments of coated flat-rolled products amounted to 47.47 thousand tons (+30.6% y-o-y; -8.7% m-o-m), hot-rolled flat-rolled products – 34.59 thousand tons (+79.9% y-o-y; +107.6% m/m), and cold-rolled flat products – 8.27 thousand tons (+12.9% y/y; -26.6% m/m).
Imports of flat rolled products increased by 8.1% y-o-y – to $880.65 million in January-September, and by 29.9% y-o-y and 19.2% m-o-m to $106.16 million in September.
It should be noted that in 2024, 983.49 thousand tons of flat rolled steel were supplied to the Ukrainian market, which is 8.3% more than in 2023.
About half of the imports were coated flat products – 468.61 thousand tons (+7% y/y). Another 34.7% of supplies, or 341.21 thousand tons (+8.7% y/y), accounted for hot-rolled flat products, and 79.31 thousand tons (-0.9% y/y) for cold-rolled flat products.
The cost of flat steel imports in 2024 increased by 5% y-o-y – to $1.08 billion.
