Ukraine increased electricity imports by 57.7% m/m in August

In August 2023, Ukraine increased electricity imports by 57.7% compared to July – from 73,298 thousand MWh to 115,596 thousand MWh. This is evidenced by data from the ENTSO-E network of operators of the continental European transmission system, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

Electricity was imported from Slovakia in the amount of 85.949 MWh (58.66 thousand MWh in July), Moldova – 20.24 MWh (13.86 MWh) and Poland – 9.41 thousand MWh (0.8 MWh). The largest volumes of imports arrived on August 8 from Slovakia – 7.54 thousand MWh.

At the same time, electricity export amounted to 0.204 MWh, which is 4 times less than the July figure (0.804 thousand MWh). It was delivered on one day – August 27, in the amount of 0.2 thousand MWh to Slovakia, and 0.004 thousand MWh to Moldova.

As GMK Center reported earlier, from July 1, 2023, the National Commission for State Regulation in the Energy and Utilities Sectors established new price caps on electricity by increasing the marginal prices for electricity for business by 40-80%.

These levels of price caps a day earlier were offered by Valery Tarasyuk, a member of the NEURC. At the meeting on June 26, a draft resolution of the regulator was presented, according to which, starting from June 30, new maximum limit prices of electricity for DAM and IDM were established in the amount of UAH 5,428/MWh for hours of maximum load (from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.) and UAH 2,714 //MWh – minimum (from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.). The new price caps on DAM and IDM were supposed to exceed the existing ones by 35.7%.
