Ukraine has almost exhausted its quota for stainless pipes exports to the EU

Ukraine’s steelmaking companies have almost exhausted the country quota for exports of seamless stainless tubes and pipes to the European Union (category 22) issued for Q1, i.e. from 1 January 2021 to 31 March 2021, according to the monitoring data provided by Ukrmetallurgprom.

Ukrainian steelmakers exported 3.27 thousand tons of seamless stainless tubes and pipes to the EU out of the quota portion of 3.49 thousand tons. Thus, the quota is 93.85% exhausted.

After filling the country quota, Ukrainian companies can export this category of products to the EU under the global quota (on a ‘first come, first served’ basis).

As on 10 March, Ukraine’s steelmaking companies have almost exhausted the country quota for exports of non-alloy and other alloy cold-rolled sheets to the European Union (category 2). Ukrainian companies exported 68.4 thousand tons of cold-rolled products.

The quotas for exports of hollow sections (category 21) and non-alloy wire (category 28) to the EU are 100% exhausted. Ukrainian steelmakers exported 16.65 thousand tons of hollow sections and 17.7 thousand tons of wire to the EU.

The largest Ukrainian manufacturer of seamless pipes of stainless steel is Centravis Production Ukraine (Centravis). The Company produces more than 1,000 pipe sizes of more than 100 types of corrosion-resistant and heat-resistant steel grades.

In 2020, Centravis decreased production of stainless pipes by 9% to 19.05 thousand tons against the previous year.

As reported earlier, the difference between country and global quotas is that the former can be exhausted before the end of its validity period, with no rush and fear that other countries will be quicker. Yet unused quantities may not be carried over to the next year.
