Ukraine fell to 25th place in the global rating of steel production in 2022

In 2022, Ukraine fell to the 25th place in the global rating of 64 steel-producing countries. This is evidenced by World Steel Association’s data. In 2021, the country took 14th place.

In 2022, Ukrainian steelmakers reduced steel output by 70.7% compared to 2021 – to 6.26 million tons.

In 2022, world steel production decreased by 4.3% compared to the same period in 2021 – to 1.831 billion tons. The top five producing countries in 2022, according to World Steel:

  • China – 1.013 billion tons (-2.1% compared to 2021);
  • India – 124.7 million tons (+5.5%);
  • Japan – 89.2 million tons (-7.4%);
  • USA – 80.7 million tons (-5.9%);
  • Russia – 71.5 million tons (-7.2).

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2021, global steel production increased by 3.7% compared to 2020  – up to 1.95 billion tons. In 2021, Ukraine increased steel production by 3.6% compared to the previous year – up to 21.4 million tons.
