Shipments increased by 15.4% y/y and 14.8% m/m

In January 2025, Ukrainian steelmakers increased exports of long products by 15.4% compared to January 2024 and by 14.8% to 49.91 thousand tons. This is according to GMK Center’s calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.

The largest export volumes were accounted for by other rods and bars of carbon steel, not further processed, twisted (HS 7214) – 18.35 thousand tons, up 168.6% y/y and 80.7% m/m. The key destination for shipments is Moldova – 11.73 thousand tons.

Also, 13.83 thousand tons of hot-rolled bars and coils were shipped abroad (HS 7213). This is 1.2% less compared to January 2024 and 22.3% m/m. Most of the products were shipped to Romania – 8.08 thsd tonnes.

Another 12.55 thousand tons (-9.2% y/y, +14.2% m/m) of exports were accounted for by carbon steel wire (HS 7217). Poland received 4.72 thousand tons of these products.

In January, Ukrainian companies’ revenue from long products exports decreased by 0.1% year-on-year and increased by 12.8% month-on-month – to $35.19 million.

As a reminder, in 2024, Ukraine increased exports of long products by 17.3% compared to 2023, from 523.34 thousand tons to 613.73 thousand tons. Hot-rolled rods and bars made of carbon steel in coils (HS 7213) accounted for more than 42% of total exports of long products, amounting to 258.33 thousand tons (+23% y/y). Foreign exchange earnings from long products exports in 2024 increased by 15.1% y/y – to $452.18 million.
