Ukraine exported 30.5 thousand tons of long products in May

In May 2024, Ukrainian steel enterprises reduced exports of long steel products by 47.3% compared to the same month in 2023, to 30.5 thousand tons. Revenue from exports of the relevant products fell by 36.9% y/y – to $25.47 million. This is evidenced by the data of the State Customs Service.

In May, exports of long products decreased by 21.9% compared to April, while revenues fell by 14.8%.

In January-May 2024, Ukrainian steelmakers shipped 216.87 thousand tons of long products for export, up 13.1% year-on-year. Export revenue for the period amounted to $169.68 million (+2.6% y/y).

Hot-rolled bars and coils in coils (HS 7213) were exported the most in 5 months – 98.97 thousand tons for $60.56 million, in May – 12.24 thousand tons (-36.7% m/m) for $7.52 million (-36.3% m/m). The company also exported 56.09 thousand tons of carbon steel wire (HS 7217) for $48.43 million, and 8.51 thousand tons (-9.1% m/m) for $7.42 million (-5.6% m/m) for the month.

Other rods and bars, untreated, twisted (HS 7214) were the top three exporters of long products from Ukraine in January-May, with 26.93 thousand tons worth $16.56 million. In May, exports of such products fell by 52.3% m/m – to 3.18 thousand tons, while revenue fell by 51% m/m – to $2.05 million.

Romania and Poland were the largest consumers of Ukrainian hot-rolled bars and rods over the month, accounting for 47.5% and 38.8%, respectively, in monetary terms. Poland (35%) and Germany (18.9%) consumed about 55% of Ukrainian wire. Moldova (54.1%) was the main buyer of other rods and bars, untreated and twisted.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, Ukrainian steelmakers reduced exports of long products by 31.4% year-on-year – to 523.84 thousand tons. Steelmakers’ revenue from exports of such products fell by 45% y/y – to $395.15 million. Hot rolled bars and coils in coils (HS 7213) were exported the most over the year, 209.97 thousand tons for $131.42 million.
