Ukraine and Moldova cancel permits for cargo transportation from September 1

Ukraine and Moldova signed a bilateral protocol on the cancellation of permits for cargo transportation from September 1, 2022. The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Mustafa Nayem, informed about it on his Telegram-channel.

Thus, from September, Ukrainian exporters will be able to ship their products through Moldova under new simplified rules.

“This is the last step towards canceling the permit regime with all neighboring countries. After the signing of the “transport visa-free” agreement with the European Union, Moldova remained the only country on our borders with which freight transportation was not liberalized,” Mustafa Nayem said.

The signing of the bilateral protocol will save Ukrainian enterprises from stopping the export of their products.

According to him, in 2021 the total turnover between Ukraine and Moldova increased by almost a third compared to 2020. Due to the war and blocking of Ukrainian ports, the Moldovan route has become even more important for our cargo.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in the middle of August of 2022 Ukraine and Moldova restored the section of railway connection between Berezino (Ukraine) and Bessarabka (Moldova) stations, bypassing the self-proclaimed Transnistria. The railway track was rebuilt in record time – a little over a month.

“This is a major transport event in recent times. There has been no movement here since 1999. We calculated – now the flow of goods to Moldova can grow by 10 million tons every year,” Mustafa Nayem commented on the event.
