UDP to cooperate with the largest logistics Danube operators

Ukrainian Danube Shipping (UDP) is considering the possibility of cooperation with the largest logistics operators of the Danube. This was stated by the acting CEO of UDP Dmytro Moskalenko on his Facebook page.

“This week, the shipping delegation visited a number of European countries. The main purpose of the visit is to develop cooperation with foreign partners; strengthening the work of our representative offices and joint ventures within the framework of the corporate shipping structure reform; protection of foreign shipping assets,” he said.

The first meetings took place in Romania, which has a close logistics directions connection of sea transportation with Ukraine – the Sulina canal and the Chernavoda canal – the port of Constanţa.

Sulina’s potential is limited due to low throughput. The opening of the Bystre estuary to vessels has improved the situation, but issues of insufficient depths and navigation safety remain.

The development of logistics through the Chernavoda canal also has difficulties, including:

  • loss of actual cargo capacity during periods of shallow water;
  • fleet delays due to the need to use Constanta port terminals.

“Our goal is to develop complex logistics solutions that make it possible to compensate the shortcomings of all the mentioned logistics directions. Transshipment at the raid parking lots of the Constanţa, Sulina, Ust-Dunaisk ports can be such a complex solution. Either according to the barge scheme – a vessel or a storage vessel,” the UDP said in the statement.

Due to cooperation with foreign partners, the UDP will reduce the turnover time of the fleet, increase the volume of transportation and increase competitiveness.

“UDP will be able to occupy its own niche in the maritime transportation chain in the long term,” sums up the acting CEO of shipping.

As GMK Center reported earlier, the UDP has increased the carrying capacity of the fleet by 3 times since the beginning of the war. As part of the fleet repair program, more than 150 fleet units were repaired in 6 months and 35 barges, which had been idle for a long time, were put into operation.
