Turkish Yeşilyurt invests $51.7 million in a solar power plant

Turkish long steel producer Yeşilyurt Demir Çelik will build a 95 MW solar power plant in Hilvan district of Sanliurfa province (Turkiye). SteelOrbis informs about it.

The investment cost of the project is $51.7 million. Almost 200,000 solar panels and 950 inverters will be built within its framework. The produced electricity will be used for the needs of the company. According to the project, the solar power plant will produce 160.7 million kW of energy per year. In this way, the company aims to reduce its carbon footprint in line with climate goals.

The Ministry of Environment and Urbanization of the country announced that the application submitted by the company for the solar power plant project has been studied and the environmental impact study process has begun.

The annual capacity of Yeşilyurt Demir Çelik in the production of rolled products is 1.8 million tons per year, the steel smelting capacity is 1.3 million tons per year.

As GMK Center reported earlier, the Turkish steel producer Cemtas Celik Makina builds solar power plant (SPP) to reduce electricity costs and reduce carbon emissions. It will appear in the industrial zone of Bursa. It is expected that the approximate amount of investment will be $1.4 million, the planned capacity of the facility is 2 MW. The new SPP was expected to become operational in the third quarter of 2023.

Also, the Finnish energy company Fortum will supply green electricity for the H2 Green Steel company’s steel plant, which is being designed in Sweden. The parties signed a framework agreement. The companies have formed a partnership that allows H2 Green Steel to purchase electricity from Fortum on both a short- and long-term basis for its green steel operations in Buden.
