Erdemir

Thanks to this step, the company will increase its annual production capacity

Turkish steel producer Erdemir has announced the completion of the reconstruction of blast furnace № 2 (Zübeyde) as part of investments aimed at improving productivity, informs Yeni Ufuk.

According to the company’s statement, the blast furnace will be commissioned on October 29, 2023.

Thanks to the reconstruction of the unit, Erdemir’s annual production capacity will increase from 1.625 million tons to 1.775 million tons. Thus, Erdemir will contribute to the sustainable development of production by increasing its efficiency.

The new furnace, which was built to replace a blast furnace that has been in operation since 1978, is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment that will contribute to improving Erdemir’s health, environmental and energy efficiency performance.

As GMK Center reported earlier, last November Erdemir reported the intention to invest approximately $550 million in the construction of a new pellet plant. The decision to create a new iron ore making plant was made after the completion of drilling operations at the Bingel-Avnyk mine site. Iron ore reserves at the mine amount to about 250-300 million tons.

Also, the Turkish integrated steel producer Kardemir aims to become a global company, which will be at the forefront of the country’s industry. General manager Nejdet Utkanlar said about it. According to him, the company’s goal is to increase the production of products with high added value to 3.5 million tons and to expand the assortment.
