Tosyalı Algeria puts a new flat-rolled steel plant into operation

Algerian steelmaker Tosyali Algeria, a subsidiary of Turkey’s Tosyal Holding, has commissioned a new flat-rolled steel plant based on an electric arc furnace with an annual capacity of 2.2 million tons, Kallanish reports.

The company has started producing slabs and will soon launch a hot strip mill and a new direct reduction module.

«With this significant investment, Tosyali Algeria will fully meet the demand for flat products in Algeria through domestic production and will make a significant contribution to the integration of Algerian industry and increase revenues from exports of non-hydrocarbon products,» the company said in a statement.

The current project is part of the fourth phase of the expansion of Tosyali Algeria’s steel complex. The 800 ktpa cold rolling mill and 400 ktpa galvanizing line are expected to be commissioned in 2025.

Еosyali Algeria plans to triple its export revenues by expanding its operations in 2024, said Alp Topçuoglu, the company’s vice president. In 2022, the Algerian company produced 3 million tons of steel products and exported about 1.3 million tons worth over $800 million.

As GMK Center reported earlier, the Algerian steelmaker intends to invest $120-150 million in the construction of a mining and processing plant. Last April, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Algerian Feraal. Iron ore will be supplied from the Gara Djebilet deposit. The annual production capacity of the joint venture is expected to be 500 thousand tons of iron ore concentrate.
