The volume of completed construction works in Ukraine for the first quarter increased by 8.4% y/y

In January-March 2023, construction enterprises of Ukraine increased the volume of completed works by 8.4% compared to the same period in 2022 – up to UAH 22.12 billion. This is evidenced by State Statistics Service’s data.

In March 2023, the indicator increased by 2.8 times compared to March 2022 – up to UAH 3.37 billion. At the same time, compared to February 2023, the volume of work increased by 38.7%.

In the first quarter, the construction of residential buildings fell by 13.6% compared to January-March 2023 – to UAH 3.88 billion. The volume of construction of non-residential buildings decreased by 0.2% y/y – to UAH 5.74 billion. During this period, engineering construction increased by 23.1% y/y – up to UAH 12.49 billion.

The share of new construction in the total volume of completed construction works during this period was 46.5%, repairs – 31.3%, reconstruction and technical re-equipment – 22.2%.

The growth of engineering construction is related to the restoration of transport and industrial facilities destroyed by Russian military aggression, as well as bridges, overpasses, roads, railways, pipelines, communications, power lines and other infrastructure and engineering structures. At the same time, a large share of new construction corresponds to the scale of destruction, which is not amenable to partial repair or reconstruction.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2022, construction enterprises of Ukraine reduced the volume of completed works by 56% compared to 2021 – to UAH 113.83 billion. In December 2022, the indicator fell by 58.9% y/y. Residential construction decreased by 51.9% y/y, engineering – by 58.5%, and non-residential – by 53.5%.
