Residential construction decreased by 51.9% y/y, engineering – by 58.5%, and non-residential – by 53.5%

In 2022, construction enterprises of Ukraine reduced the volume of completed works by 55.9% compared to 2021 – to UAH 113.83 billion. This is evidenced by State Statistics Service’s data.

In December 2022, the indicator fell by 58.9%% year-on-year. At the same time, compared to November 2022, the volume of work increased by 62.4%.

In 2022, the construction of residential buildings fell by 51.9% compared to the previous year – to UAH 19.83 billion. The volume of construction of non-residential buildings decreased by 53.5% year-on-year – to UAH 29.61 billion. Engineering construction during this period fell by 58.5% y/y – to UAH 64.39 billion.

The share of new construction in the total amount of completed construction works in 2022 was 36.9%, repair – 38.6%, reconstruction and technical re-equipment – 24.5%.

Steel constructions market for construction purposes in Ukraine in 2022 decreased by 55-65%, after an increase of 5% in 2021.

With the beginning of the war, the demand for steel structures collapsed due to the suspension of construction works and interruptions in the supply of products. In addition, after the destruction of Azovstal and Ilyich Iron and Steel Works, the building materials market faced a shortage of rolled steel. Later, this problem was solved by importing.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2021 construction enterprises of Ukraine increased the volume of completed works by 5% compared to 2020. In December 2021, the indicator increased by 19.8%. The construction of residential buildings increased by 16.8%, non-residential buildings – by 19.8%, and engineering structures – by 3.1%.

The highest growth rates of completed construction works over the year were observed in Ternopil (37.3%), Vinnytsia (20.1%) and Cherkasy (17.6%) regions. Chernivtsi (-38.9%), Zakarpattia (-26.1%) and Kirovohrad (-22.3%) regions showed the greatest decline.
