The state budget for 2023 provides UAH 36 billion for the restoration of railway tracks

The state budget of Ukraine for 2023 provides for the creation of a fund for the restoration of the railway infrastructure, which provides for about UAH 36 billion. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Finance Olexander Kava, reports CTS.

UAH 17 billion was allocated from the state budget for 2022 to support rail transport. These are the funds that were in the reserve fund, the Deputy Minister of Finance said.

“As for the restoration of the railway infrastructure, a special recovery fund has been created in the 2023 budget, which provides for almost 36 billion hryvnias to finance the construction, reconstruction, restoration, and overhaul,” he added.

On November 3, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law «On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2023» in its second reading. The main indicators of the state budget-2023 are as follows:

  • income – UAH 1.3 trillion;
  • expenses – UAH 2.6 trillion;
  • the projected deficit is UAH 1.25 trillion ($38 billion), which is more than 20% of GDP.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia in January-October 2022 completed a major overhaul of almost 400 km of railway tracks. As of mid-May 2022, despite the war, UZ updated various types of repair of 195.8 km of railway tracks.

In 2021, the railway operator increased the number of overhauls and reconstructions of railway tracks by 2 times compared to 2020 – up to 321.6 km.
