New logistics projects are being planned in the Odesa region – in particular, the construction of a railway branch to the port of Reni and a bridge over the Danube. Ports of Ukraine reported about it.
A memorandum of cooperation for the implementation of infrastructure development in the region was recently signed by the Service for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure in Odesa region and the Agency for Regional Development of Odesa region.
The Agency for Regional Development of the Odesa region proposes to implement two large-scale projects. One of them is the construction of the Izmail – Reni railway section. This should ensure an increase in the load on the Reni port, a decrease in the costs of carriers for transporting goods, and increase the competitiveness of manufacturers on the European market.
In addition, the construction of a bridge over the Danube (Orlivka, Ukraine – Isaccia, Romania) is under consideration. This project will make it possible to integrate Ukrainian roads into the trans-European transport network, speed up the development of territories and strengthen international economic cooperation with neighboring countries.
«As a result of Russian aggression, Ukraine experienced problems with the export of Ukrainian products, in particular agricultural products. To solve this issue, it is necessary to develop alternative routes of cargo transportation to EU countries and other markets through Europe,» the agency said.
As GMK Center reported earlier, Ukraine will develop transport infrastructure at checkpoints on the border with Romania and other countries, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said. According to him, the western border of the state has become the main logistics corridor, so work on expanding its capacity continues. The government meeting discussed the modernization of existing checkpoints and the construction of new ones.
Also, the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure plans to increase bandwidth of Ukrainian Danube ports up to 30 million tons per year and to ensure the possibility of entering the ports of vessels with a larger cargo capacity.
