Tata Steel Nederland will supply green steel to four companies

Tata Steel Nederland has signed agreements with four companies to supply them with its Zeremis Carbon Lite steel starting in 2023. Eurometal informs about it with the reference to Kallanish.

The customer companies – Hungarian Wuppermann, German Bilstein and EMW Stahl Service and Spanish Arania – are major players in the automotive and industrial markets.

“We can already supply them a significant amount of high-quality low-CO2 steel now, and we aim to offer large quantities of high-quality green steel by 2030,” commented Hans van den Berg, CEO of Tata Steel Nederland.

Tata’s Zeremis brand for steel with an allocated carbon footprint reduction of up to 90% for the sum of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions was launched in 2022. In October last year, Tata signed an agreement to supply Zeremis with automaker Ford. By 2030, the steelmaker is targeting to commission its first direct reduction plants and electric arc furnaces at the IJmuiden site.

As GMK Center reported earlier, the leading German steel producer ThyssenKrupp Steel concluded a contract with technology company SMS group to build a Direct Reduction Iron (DRI) plant that can run on hydrogen. SMS group received an order for the design, supply and construction of a hydrogen plant for direct reduction iron, two innovative melting furnaces and auxiliary plants at the ThyssenKrupp site in Duisburg.

Also, the German Salzgitter Group and the Canadian mining corporation Baffinland Iron Mines will cooperate in the production of green steel. The companies will explore using high-grade iron ore from Nunavut to produce low-carbon steel.
