Sukha Balka suspended work due to repairs and power outages

The Sukha Balka mine, which is part of the DCH group, has completely suspended work due to power outages at the Frunze mine and equipment repair at the Yuvileyna mine. Interfax-Ukraine reports about it with the reference to the corporate publication DCH Steel.

The technological process at the Yuvileyna mine was suspended due to scheduled repairs of the loading and dosing complex. The work was carried out in the shaft of the mine at the end of November 2022 and lasted 12 days. At the beginning of December, iron ore production at the mine was resumed.

Sukha Balka mine in November 2022 temporarily suspended technological processes at the Frunze mine. This happened in the conditions of a decrease in production volumes, consumption of raw materials and limited supply of energy resources. Such a step will avoid the risks associated with emergency power outages and help retain qualified personnel. Miners who worked at the Frunze mine will continue to work in the underground horizons of the Yuvileyna mine.

The power of the Yuvileyna mine makes it possible, in the event of an emergency shutdown, to activate the counterweight mechanism and raise the miners to the surface. Therefore, the technological process in this unit will continue.

The Sukha Balka mine specializes in underground iron ore mining with a capacity of about 3.1 million tons per year. The mining includes the mines Frunze and the Yuvileyna.

As GMK Center reported earlier, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih managed to save blast furnace №6, equipment and pig iron of blast furnace shop №1 after a massive power outage across the country as a result of shelling of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure by Russian troops on November 23, 2022.

Also, Kametstal Iron and Steel Works in mid-December 2022 resumed production in one blast furnace. At that time, the company had completed the diagnosis and repair of the main equipment after the Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine. The further recovery of steel and rolled steel production will largely depend on the level of electricity supply deficit in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Kametstal on November 23, 2022, temporarily suspended production due to damage to the energy infrastructure of Ukraine as a result of massive shelling by Russian troops.
