Scrap collection volumes in Ukraine for January-July 2022 decreased by 64.1% compared to the same period of 2021 – to 756.8 thousand tons.
Ukrainian Association of Secondary Metals (UAVtormet) reports about it on its Telegram.
The export of scrap metal for 7 months amounted to 35.2 thousand tons, while in January-July 2021 334.6 thousand tons of scrap was exported. The import of scrap metal during this period fell to 1.7 thousand tons compared to 14.8 thousand tons a year earlier.
The association also notes a reduction in scrap supplies to Ukrainian enterprises – by 63.9%, to 685.6 thousand tons. At the same time, the technological reserves of scrap at steel enterprises are estimated at less than 40 thousand tons.
As GMK Center reported earlier, Volodymyr Bublei, president of the UAVtormet association, said that in 2022 need for scrap metal in steel companies was 3.5 million tons for the production of 21.5 million tons of steel. The export of scrap metal from Ukraine this year may amount to 100,000 tons. Such a forecast was made public in the pre-war period.
In 2021, scrap gathering increased by 34.6% – to 4.1 million tons, the supply of scrap metal to steel enterprises increased by 15%, to 3.3 million tons. The export of scrap metal from Ukraine for January-December increased by 17 times – to 615.7 thousand tons.
