Salaries in the mining & metals sector decreased for most positions

In February 2021, average salaries in Ukraine’s mining & metals sector decreased for most positions. Incomes of employees grew only in the non-ferrous metals segment, by 5.6% to ₴11.4 thousand, according to the data presented by the Trade Union of Metallurgists and Miners of Ukraine (TUMMU).

In February, average salaries in the mining & metals sector were as follows:

  • coke companies — ₴17.4 thousand (-13%);
  • pipe companies — ₴13.2 thousand (-0.8%);
  • mining companies — ₴17.5 thousand (-8.9%);
  • non-ferrous metals companies — ₴17.05 thousand (-16.5%);
  • entire steel industry — ₴15.6 thousand (-13.7%).

In February, the average salary in industry was ₴13.2 thousand (-1.3%) against Ukraine’s average of ₴12.5 thousand (+1.7%).

As reported earlier, in 2020, average salaries in Ukraine’s mining & metals sector increased almost in all segments against 2019. The average salary in the steel industry increased by 3.1% over the year, while salaries at pipe and non-ferrous metals companies slightly decreased.

As reported earlier, in January, average salaries in Ukraine’s mining & metals sector increased for most positions. Specifically, salaries of steelmakers increased by 15% to ₴18 thousand; the highest growth (21.1%) was recorded in the iron and steel segment.
