Qatar raises import duties on rebar and wire for 2026

In 2026, customs duties on these products will amount to 10% of the value of the goods

Qatar has introduced an increase in customs duties on imports of rebar and wire for 2026. This was reported by Mesteel with reference to the latest issue of the Official Gazette of Qatar.

Customs duties have increased to 10% of the value of goods from the previous 5%, according to Emir’s Decree No. (117) of 2025. Duties on these products were first introduced in 2024.

This move follows the Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) approval in June 2025 to extend the increase in customs duties on rebar and wire from 5% to 10% for one year. However, market sources reported that the higher rate has only recently begun to be applied at Qatar’s customs.

By maintaining duties on these products, SteelOrbis notes, Qatar seeks to protect its domestic steel market, particularly from the risk of aggressive Chinese imports, as well as potential offers from Iran, although Iranian exports have remained limited recently. At the same time, the country seeks to remain an active exporter of rebar, especially to certain Asian markets, when competitive prices arise.

It should be recalled that in January this year, the US imposed preliminary countervailing duties (CVD) on rebar producers from Algeria, Egypt, and Vietnam, the three largest suppliers of this product to the country, until the introduction of tariffs in March 2025.

As reported by GMK Center, rebar prices in early January 2026 in the main regions remain stable with slight increases in China and Northern Europe. Offers in Turkey and the US remained unchanged during this period.
