Qarmet
The Kazakh steel company Qarmet has begun the active phase of construction on a new long-product rolling mill at the site of the steel plant in Temirtau. This was announced in a press release.
The first steel support has been installed at the construction site, marking an important milestone in the implementation of one of Qarmet’s key investment projects. The company notes that the installation of the first support effectively signals the project’s transition to the active construction phase. The future framework of the production facility is gradually taking shape at the site.
The new bar rolling mill will be part of a large-scale modernization program for the steel mill. Its launch will allow the company to significantly expand its line of high-value-added products and strengthen its position in the construction steel market.
The design capacity of the new complex will exceed 540,000 tons of products per year. The plant plans to produce high-strength rebar of grades A600 and A1000, as well as other types of steel products in demand on domestic and international markets. Specifically, this includes angles and channels.
The construction of the long-product rolling mill is part of Qarmet’s strategic course toward technological modernization of production, increased efficiency, and the development of modern production lines. The new capacity is expected to allow the company to increase output for the construction sector and respond more flexibly to consumer demand.
Qarmet is simultaneously implementing several major projects to modernize the plant. These include the construction of new coke oven batteries No. 8–9, the launch of a hot-dip galvanizing and polymer coating line, and the construction of a modern casting and rolling complex.
The company views these projects as the foundation for further modernization of the Temirtau plant’s production facilities and a transition to the production of more competitive steel products.
As a reminder, Qarmet produced 3.8 million tons of steel and 3.5 million tons of iron ore concentrate in 2025, with coal production totaling 7.5 million tons. As part of its 2025 business plan, the company had announced a target of producing 3.7 million tons of steel.
