Primetals will help China Steel Corporation reduce carbon emissions

Primetals Technologies will conduct decarbonization research for Taiwan’s largest integrated steel producer, China Steel Corporation (CSC), informs WebWire.

The study will focus on reducing CSC’s carbon footprint through operational improvements and technological changes at the Kaohsiung (Taiwan) plant. The annual volume of steel smelting of the enterprise is about 10 million tons.

«We are extremely pleased to support CSC in this initiative, which is an important activity in long-term business planning,» notes Martin Smith, director of steel business development in the Asian region of Primetals Technologies.

Primetals will provide expert advice, conduct comprehensive research and prepare a detailed report with recommendations for CSC’s decarbonisation strategy.

CSC is currently actively seeking solutions to reduce carbon emissions by 25% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

CSC steel mill located in Kaohsiung has four blast furnaces. The main products of the company are sheet steel, bars, wire rod, rolled steel. CSC supplies premium products to both domestic and international markets, mainly exporting to Southeast Asia, Europe and Japan.

As GMK Center reported earlier, at the end of 2022 Primetals Technologies and the Indian steel producer Tata Steel signed a memorandum on mutual understanding for the activation of cooperation on projects and technologies for the transition to the production of green steel and in the field of decarbonization. Tata Steel is looking for solutions to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045.
