Ports of Odesa have handled 146.5 million tons of cargo since the start of the sea corridor

Since August 2023, the ports of Greater Odesa have transshipped more than 146.5 million tons thanks to the work of the Ukrainian sea corridor. This was announced by Dmytro Nazarenko, Head of the Odesa Branch of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA).

During this period, 5,596 vessels were handled, including 1,528 through the port of Odesa.

The data was announced at a roundtable discussion of representatives of the maritime and port industry at the International Maritime and Military Exhibition BALTEXPO 2025 in Gdansk, Poland. During the event, Ukraine also presented infrastructure projects of the Port of Odesa and plans for their further implementation, and international investors were invited to cooperate.

Nazarenko informed that since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, more than 500 port infrastructure facilities and 116 civilian vessels have been damaged or destroyed, and 161 facilities have been damaged directly on the territory of the Odesa seaport.

«Despite all the challenges, Ukrainian seaports remain an integral part of the country’s economic stability. Their security is not only a matter of logistics, but also the survival of Ukraine’s export model,» he said.

As a reminder, Ukrainian seaports handled 18.5 million tons of ore cargo in 2024. Last year, the total cargo turnover reached a record high of 97.2 million tons compared to 62 million tons in 2023, while exports amounted to 88.1 million tons. In January-December 2024, the total cargo turnover of the Ukrainian sea corridor amounted to 79.9 million tons, with 76.4 million tons of export cargo. The number of vessels that used this route last year was 3,138.

As GMK Center reported earlier, according to the Association of Ukrainian Freight Forwarders, in January-August 2025, ports handled 134.19 thousand TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units), up 3.3% compared to the same period in 2024. This is the highest container turnover since the beginning of the full-scale war.
