Poland increased steel production by 3.9% y/y in January-April

In January-April 2025, steelmaking companies in Poland increased steel production by 3.9% compared to the same period in 2024, to 2.48 million tons. Thus, the country is ranked 20th in the global ranking of global steel producers by WorldSteel.

In April this year, the industry produced 633 thousand tons of steel, up 5.7% compared to April 2024. The restart of an important enterprise, Huta Częstochowa, has helped the steel complex of Poland to recover. Since February 3, the plant has been operating at full capacity after more than a year of downtime.

Overall, EU steelmakers reduced steel production by 2.6% y/y in April 2025 – to 11.1 million tons, and by 2.4% y/y in January-April to 43.5 million tons.

In 2024, Poland increased steel production by 10.1% compared to 2023, from 6.4 million tons to 7.1 million tons. The country was ranked 25th in the global ranking of steel producing countries (71) by World Steel.

The steel industry has moved away from the downward trend that has been going on since 2022, including

  • 2020 – 7.86 million tons;
  • 2021 – 8.45 million tons;
  • 2022 – 7.41 million tons;
  • 2023 – 6.43 million tons.

There are 6 steel plants in Poland, including ArcelorMittal Warszawa (0.75 million tons of steel per year), Celsa Huta Ostrowiec (0, 9 million tons per year), Huta Czestochowa (0.84 million tons per year), CMC Zawiercie (1.7 million tons per year), ArcelorMittal Dąbrowa Górnicza (5 million tons per year), Ferrostal Labedy Gliwice (0.5 million tons per year).
