Over 20 million tons of cargo were exported via the Ukrainian sea corridor

Since August 2023, more than 20 million tons of cargo, including 14.3 million tons of agricultural products, have been exported through the Ukrainian sea corridor. This was announced by Oleksandr Kubrakov, Vice Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine, Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure, according to the ministry’s website.

«In the six months of the Ukrainian corridor’s operation, 661 vessels have exported more than 20 million tons of cargo to 32 countries,» the ministry said.

In January 2024, 6.3 million tons of products were exported from the ports of Greater Odesa, which is almost equal to the pre-war level. As of February 3, the ports were expecting another 104 vessels to arrive, which are expected to export more than 3 million tons of cargo.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, cargo transshipment in Ukrainian ports increased by 5% y/y – to 62 million tons. Iron ore transshipment accounted for 5.9% of the total cargo turnover, or 1.9 million tons. The most dynamic growth in transshipment was observed in the Danube ports (Izmail, Reni and Ust-Dunaisk). Last year, the total cargo turnover in these ports almost doubled to 32 million tons, and in 2022 it will triple to 16.5 million tons from 5.5 million tons in 2021. In particular, last year, the volume of transshipment at Izmail port amounted to 20.2 million tons (up 2.3 times by 2022), and at Reni – 10.1 million tons (+47% y/y).

As GMK Center reported, last December, the UK announced the creation of a maritime coalition to ensure the safety of civilian shipping and the operation of the Ukrainian corridor.
