Montenegro offers Ukraine to transport goods through the port of Bar

Montenegro offers Ukraine to transport goods from Ukraine and to the country through its port of Bar. Center for Transport Logistics Ukrzaliznytsia informs about it.

The total capacity of the port reaches 5 million tons per year, and on average only 50% of its potential is used. Port Bar owns several specialized terminals, in particular:

  • for dry bulk cargoes;
  • for liquid cargo;
  • RO-RO and general cargo/container terminal.

“The Montenegrin side expressed interest in establishing cooperation with Ukraine to use the port’s capabilities for transshipment and transportation of goods,” the message says.

Port Bar cooperates with forwarders from Serbia, the company Panšped, which will help in organizing the process of cargo logistics.

“We are ready to contribute to the establishment of a logistics route for the transportation of a wide range of products from Ukraine to the port of Bar,” a company representative notes.

In addition, Panšped also has the opportunity to use the free railcars of the Serbian railway in case of such need.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in May the first 35 thousand tons of Ukrainian ore were trasported through the port of Constanta in Romania. The cargo was handled by the port operator Comvex. Loading of the second ship was expected around May 15th.

In addition, at the end of May, the Polish port of Swinoujscie sent the first batch out of 30 thousand tons of Ukrainian iron ore. The iron ore were delivered to the port by rail and sent to the customer in Algiers. In addition, at that time there were more than 50 thousand tons of Ukrainian ore on the berths of the port.

In January-June 2022, Ukrainian mining and metals companies reduced export of ore by 24.2% compared to the same period in 2021 – up to 17.01 million tons. Ukrzaliznytsia for this period transported for export 15.7 million tons of iron ore, reducing the index by 29.3%.
