Metinvest’s Spartan UK to manufacture steel sheets for nuclear power plant construction in the UK

The company has signed a contract for the supply of 1,600 t of metal products

The British rolling mill of the Metinvest Group, Spartan UK, has signed a contract to supply 1,600 t of steel plates for the construction of the new Sizewell C nuclear power plant on the Suffolk coast (a county in Eastern England). This was reported by Metinvest Media.

According to Spartan UK sales manager Ian Robinson, the final dimensions for the production of the first batch of heavy plate have already been received: 800 t will be delivered in August, while the remainder will be shipped in the third quarter of this year.

“This is a proud moment for Spartan UK. We are honored to participate in a project that not only strengthens the country’s energy security but also demonstrates the strength and reliability of British manufacturing,” Robinson said.

Construction has not yet begun, but preliminary visualizations of the Sizewell C facility have already been published.

Sizewell C is expected to provide clean energy to power up to 6 million households and create up to 10,000 jobs at the peak of construction. This is one of the largest energy projects in the United Kingdom in recent decades. The construction of this nuclear power plant will be the largest government investment in clean energy of this century, and for the first time, British consumers will become co-owners of a nuclear power plant.

As a reminder, the Dutch fleet has added a new combat support ship, Den Helder, made with Metinvest steel. The structure uses 5,000 t of steel produced by Azovstal and the Italian company Metinvest Trametal. The ship’s commissioning is scheduled for October 1, 2025, and it is expected to reach full operational readiness by mid-2026.
