Metinvest-SMC sent 500 batches of goods for the Armed Forces in seven months

Steel trading company Metinvest-SMC supplies high-quality steel for the needs of the army, including within the framework of Rinat Akhmetov’s “Steel Front” military initiative. Metinvest-Media’s press release reports about it.

During the seven months of 2022, the Metinvest-SMC’s bases processed approximately 500 shipments for the needs of the Ukrainian defenders with a total amount of almost 4,000 tons of steel. Military units, representatives of ground defense, urban and rural communities and enterprises of the defense complex appealed to the company during this period.

Also, Metinvest-SMC provided 32 tons of wire rod for the production of mini-bastions for units of the Armed Forces and ground defense, this was enough for about 32 km of fortification. Such structures help to quickly enclose tents, close equipment and ammunition depots in open areas. The project is carried out in cooperation with AV Metal Group and the lattice flooring plant ZRN.

At the beginning of the war, the steel trading company was the first to import armor plates for the production of bulletproof vests, already in the spring 600 tons of steel were contracted. According to Ihor Tonev, CEO of Metinvest-SMC, this turned out to be a difficult issue due to the nuances of ordering armored steel, its purchase and customs clearance. Therefore, the company used its development and specialization in this direction. All products are transferred to partners specializing in the production of ammunition, in particular, the company cooperates with the Lviv Defense Cluster (LDC).

“Now, all the efforts of the company, as well as other businesses of Rinat Akhmetov within the framework of the military initiative “Steel Front”, are aimed at helping the defenders and bringing the victory of Ukraine closer,” noted Ihor Tonev.

In parallel with the import, with the participation of specialists, the company started production at the facilities of the Metinvest Group enterprises – currently a stock of ready-made armor plates has been formed, which is constantly being replenished. Body armors are provided free of charge. Requests to receive armor plates should be sent to the e-mail address: smc@metinvestholding.com.

In addition, Metinvest-SMC supplies hot-rolled sheet of steel grade 30MnB5. It is possible to make elements of hard protection of equipment from it. After strengthening heat treatment, the products are suitable for strengthening SUVs, medical vehicles, utility vehicles and other equipment. So far, the company has shipped steel for the reservation of more than 250 cars. The company’s specialists are ready to cooperate in other directions regarding the equipment of special purpose equipment.

Metinvest-SMC’s steel produce many things for the defenders of Ukraine, in particular, minesweepers, turbo stoves, fire extinguishers, hedgehogs, etc. In particular, within the framework of cooperation with Ukrtransgaz, almost 130 turbostoves were delivered to various areas of the front line for employees of Metinvest enterprises serving in the ranks of the Armed Forces. In total, approximately 1,300 stoves were made from the company’s metal with the help of various partners.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Metinvest Group handed over 150,000 body armors to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Thus, every tenth body armor in the Armed Forces is made of Metinvest steel or purchased by the Group.

As GMK Center wrote before, Metinvest-SMC shipped about 7 tons of rebar for staples free of charge from the steel center in Kryvyi Rih for the military in Donetsk region. The company RGCProduction was engaged in the production of staples. As a result of cooperation, 20,000 staples were produced, which have already been sent to the front.
