The command post has been built even closer to the line of contact and is designed according to a new project
Metinvest Group has completed the construction of an upgraded NATO Role 2 underground hospital, located in one of the hottest areas of the front line. This is stated in the company’s report.
This is the second medical center created in coordination with the Medical Forces as part of Rinat Akhmetov’s Steel Front initiative. It is more protected and concealed, and has undergone structural changes based on the experience gained from operating the first hospital.
The stabilization point was built even closer to the line of contact, and additional measures were taken to fortify and secure medical personnel and wounded soldiers. In particular, it was sunk more than 6 m underground and reinforced with additional layers of ceilings.
The total area of the second hospital is 350 square meters, and it is based on a combination of four Metinvest steel “hideout” modules, which house the operating and stabilization units, a work area, and a rest area for medical personnel.
As noted by Metinvest Group’s Chief Operating Officer Olexander Myronenko, following the recommendations and in agreement with the Medical Forces, the hospital was designed according to a new project, which made it possible to optimize the timing of installation and underground construction, as well as to take additional measures to camouflage the main and emergency exits.
“Thanks to our expertise in setting up functional modular ‘underground facilities,’ we were able to rationalize the space without losing its functionality and efficiency. The medical center is already operational and saving the lives of Ukrainian defenders, which is the most important thing,” he said.
Metinvest financed the manufacture, transportation, installation, and furnishing of the hospital, as well as its equipment with household appliances and all the life support systems necessary in field conditions: drinking and technical water, electricity, ventilation, sewage, backup power sources, climate control equipment, etc. The company’s total investment amounts to over UAH 21 million.
The underground hospital can perform up to three operations of varying complexity. All the necessary medical equipment – high-speed infusion pumps, X-ray machines, oxygen concentrators, defibrillators, etc. – has been provided to the hospital at the expense of the army. A team of experienced medics ensures that the lives of soldiers are saved.
As noted by Lieutenant Colonel Roman Kuziv of the Medical Service, the first underground hospital built by Metinvest has proven itself to be highly effective – in one year of operation, combat medics have saved more than 6,000 soldiers’ lives. However, the search for a universal model of a medical station that can be implemented anywhere on the front line on the medical evacuation route map is ongoing.
“We have now implemented the optimal concept at the second underground hospital, which will be able to receive wounded soldiers with varying degrees of severity. This is an important reinforcement for the Medical Forces of Ukraine, and we are grateful to Metinvest for its systematic partnership and the flexibility of the solutions that the company is implementing,” Kuziv said.
In September 2024, Metinvest, in coordination with the Medical Forces, created the country’s first underground stabilization point to save the lives of defenders on the front lines.
