Marcegaglia is raising prices for stainless steel welded pipes effective May 18

The Italian group Marcegaglia Specialties has announced an update to its price list for welded stainless steel pipes, effective May 18, 2026. The company attributes the price adjustment to a significant increase in production costs, particularly due to rising prices for raw materials, energy, logistics, and cargo handling.

The new price list is a necessary step to maintain quality standards and supply stability amid inflationary pressure on processing costs. The company also highlighted the challenging market situation in Europe, where stainless steel producers are facing rising production costs at every stage of the supply chain.

The update covers a wide range of decorative, corrosion-resistant, and structural tubes in 304L, 316L, and 316Ti steel grades.

According to the price list, 40×40 mm square tubes with a wall thickness of 2 mm and a polished surface made of 304L steel are priced at €7.67/m, while similar products made of 316L steel are priced at €12.87/m. A mirror-polished 40×40 mm pipe made of 304L steel costs €14.36/m.

Prices are significantly higher for larger sizes. Specifically, a 100×100 mm square tube with a 5 mm wall thickness in a ground finish made of 304L steel costs €48.11/m, while a polished version made of 316L steel costs €86.49/m.

In the round decorative tube segment, a 50.8 mm diameter, 2 mm thick tube with a matte finish made of 304L steel is priced at €7.80/m, while for 316L steel the price is €12.97/m. The mirror-polished version of the same product costs €15.08/m.

The price list also highlights a significant difference between standard and mirror-polished tubes. For certain items, the premium for mirror polishing exceeds 80–100% compared to a ground surface, reflecting the high costs of additional processing.

Marcegaglia’s price revision comes amid a general rise in the cost of stainless steel products in Europe, where the market remains influenced by high nickel prices, energy costs, and limited supply of certain rolled products.

It should be noted that regional pipe markets are experiencing mixed trends due to the specific nature of pipe products. By the end of April, prices for welded pipes in Turkey intended for construction purposes had practically stabilized, while quotations for oil and gas OCTG pipes in the U.S. rose by $220 – to $2,274/t.
