The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry of Malaysia has announced the introduction of final anti-dumping duties on imports from China, India, Japan and South Korea of flat rolled products made of iron or non-alloy steel with a width of 600 mm or more, clad, galvanized or tin-plated. Selangor Journal reports.
The relevant anti-dumping investigation into imports of these products originating or exported from these four countries based on a petition filed by a local manufacturer was launched in August last year.
“The government has completed the investigation and has finally determined that the product in question is imported into Malaysia at a price lower than the selling price in the said countries, causing significant injury to the domestic industry producing the same product,” the statement said.
The anti-dumping duties on imports from India will be 27.88%, for Chinese products – from 4.48% to 20.42%. Japanese supplies will be taxed at a rate of 15.74% to 36.8%, and South Korean supplies will be taxed at a rate of 21.6% to 35.43%.
The anti-dumping duties came into force on May 11, 2025 and will be in effect for five years.
In April of this year, the Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade initiated an anti-dumping investigation into imports of coated carbon steel flat products from Malaysia to Ukraine. The reason for this was suspicions that these imports were used to circumvent previously imposed duties on similar products of Chinese origin.
