Kametstal resumed repair work on air heater №4 of blast furnace №1M

Kametstal Iron and Steel Works resumed work on the long-term capital repair of air heater №4 on blast furnace (BF) №1M in the conditions of power supply restrictions. This is stated in the press release on the company’s Facebook page.

The main purpose of the overhaul is to replace the refractory lining of the unit, which has undergone wear and tear during operation. Repair specialists have already carried out the collapse of substandard lining of the combustion chamber, radial walls and dome. Also, the grille and columns of the sub-loading space were dismantled and new ones were installed.

After dismantling the worn lining, specialists will begin the restoration of several thousand fire-resistant linings of the air heater. In addition, it is planned to repair steel structures and work platforms, replace cable and conductor products, restore control panels and lighting networks of the unit.

“High quality blast heating in blast furnace production is one of its most important stages. Air heaters are important for saving fuel and increasing the productivity of furnaces,” Kametstal notes.

Overhaul of the air heater will increase the temperature of the hot blast, which, in turn, will make it possible to reduce fuel consumption during melting and increase the efficiency of the blast furnace.

As GMK Center report earlier, in the pre-war period, three air heaters on blast furnaces №1M and №9 were repaired at Kametstal as part of the major repairs program. At the beginning of the year, the plant started repairs of air heater of BF №12, investments in the repair of which were calculated at the level of UAH 68 million.

Now the enterprise is carrying out restoration work on continuous casting machines (CCM). Units and equipment are being prepared to be launched.  During a forced shutdown at the enterprise as well as repair equipment in the main sections of the converter shop. Overhaul of foundry crane №13 is being completed here.
