Kametstal reduced electricity consumption in the lighting system by 81%

The company installed about 3,000 LED lights in both divisions

Kametstal Iron and Steel Works in cooperation with the YASNO Efficiency company provided its production units with 3 thousand LED lamps, thus reducing electricity consumption by 81%. GMK Center was informed about this by the press service of YASNO.

“YASNO completed another energy-efficient project at the Kametstal enterprise. This is already the fourth project of the lighting system modernization, which this time was implemented in the oxygen-compressor shop and in the chemical water treatment section of the thermal power plant. Another project will be implemented in the company’s rolling shop in the near future,” the report says.

Each of these projects included the dismantling of old lamps, which mainly worked on the basis of mercury lamps and ordinary incandescent lamps, replacement of cable and conductor products.

As part of four projects, about 3,000 LED lamps have already been installed, which consume up to 10 times less electricity and increase the level of safety at their workplaces. A new system has been installed to account for electricity consumption at the enterprise, thanks to which YASNO and Kametstal experts can monitor project performance indicators.

The new lighting made it possible to reduce electricity consumption at the enterprise by 1.01 million kWh, or by 81% of the basic consumption of the lighting system of both divisions of the enterprise. Savings amount to about 4 million hryvnias per year.

In addition to the economic effect, the modernization of the lighting system made it possible to provide the plant with lighting that complies with labor protection standards, increases the safety of employees during the performance of their duties, and also increases labor productivity.

“We understand how important it is for enterprises to be energy efficient, so we deliberately approached this issue. Smart consumption is important not only in the context of economy, it is also about reducing the impact on the environment and reducing the cost of production, which is extremely important in today’s environment. YASNO experts initially conducted an energy audit and identified the places where the company loses the most energy resources. We agreed on a plan and started working, and now we already have very good savings indicators, although that is not all,” said Igor Stoev, director of engineering at Kametstal.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2022, Kametstal carried out 80 major repairs in production divisions. Among the most important works performed by the plant are the overhaul of sintering machine №12 and blast furnace №9, relocation of the coking chambers of coke oven battery №1-bis, restoration of the heating furnace of mill 400/200.

Also, in 2022, Kametstal increased steel production by 68% compared to 2021 – up to 1.56 million tons. Iron smelting at the plant increased by 75% compared to 2021 – up to 1.48 million tons.

For 2022, the enterprise transferred more than UAH 1.598 billion in taxes and fees to the budgets of all levels.
