Kametstal overhauls equipment in the oxygen compressor shop

Kametstal is carrying out a major overhaul of the KAR-30 No. 3 air separation unit in the oxygen and compressor shop. The unit provides oxygen and nitrogen to technological processes in the main production units, primarily BOF and blast furnace. This is stated in the company’s press release.

The main objective of the overhaul is to restore the cryogenic equipment to operate safely, as KAR-30 No. 3 has been out of service for a long time.

The work plan includes, firstly, repair of cryogenic tanks and valves. The main rectification unit and all internal metal pipelines are being inspected. All internal cryogenic valves are being inspected. Any technical issues identified will be addressed as part of this overhaul.

An expert examination of cryogenic tanks, where the air separation process takes place and which operate under pressure, is also being carried out to obtain permission for their further operation.

«This year, we are planning a large-scale overhaul of Kametstal’s main air separation unit AKAR-40/35. During its shutdown, the technological tasks of supplying production units with air separation products will be performed by backup equipment, in particular, KAR-30 No. 3. It should be technically ready to perform these tasks and ensure stable production of up to 25 thousand cubic meters of oxygen per hour,» comments Andrey Pismenny, Head of the Oxygen Compressor Shop.

As a reminder, Kametstal is carrying out a large-scale overhaul of BOF vessel No. 1 at the BOF Shop. First of all, more than 800 tons of refractories will be replaced, which have reached the end of their service life. Work is also underway to restore the metal structures of the converter lining.
