Upgrading key equipment should ensure the unit's stable operation and the fulfillment of production targets
At the Kametstal steelworks, part of the Metinvest Group, a third-class overhaul of blast furnace No. 9 is underway this week. The work is being carried out on a “blitz” schedule, which allows for the rapid replacement of critical equipment and minimizes the unit’s downtime, according to a press release.
One of the key tasks of the overhaul is the replacement of the small cone of the rotating charge distributor in the furnace charging device. This component was manufactured by Metinvest Machinery. The assembly and installation of the equipment are being carried out by specialists from the plant’s metallurgical equipment repair shop.
The repair campaign is also focusing on the casting yard, where components and parts of the cast iron tap gate opening and closing mechanisms are being replaced. In addition, equipment for the charging systems, the air heater unit, and the dust collector is being upgraded.
At the same time, specialists from the equipment repair shop are inspecting and restoring the electrical and power systems in all sections of the blast furnace. This comprehensive approach is designed to improve the technical reliability of the unit after the repair is completed.
The company notes that the overhaul of DP-9 is one of the key stages of the blast furnace shop’s annual maintenance program. Stable and productive operation of the furnace directly impacts the fulfillment of production plans and the efficiency of the entire division.
As a reminder, Kametstal previously launched a program of major overhauls of its main production equipment for 2026. The first major stage was the overhaul of Converter No. 2 in the converter shop.
