Kamet-steel overhauled converter No.2 for large-scale overhaul

Kamet-steel has shut down BOF vessel No. 2 at its BOF Shop for a major overhaul as part of its 2024 capital repair programme. This is stated in the company’s press release.

The most important tasks include repair of the converter body and re-lining. Considerable attention is being paid to the power section, including the replacement of important components and repair of the caisson boiler for the removal and primary cooling of converter gases.

The electric motor of smoke exhauster No. 2 is also being replaced with a modern European-made motor. The installation of the control equipment has already been completed, and after the installation and commissioning of the new motor, we expect the smoke exhauster to operate efficiently.

The current focus is on the stable operation of BOF vessel No. 1, which is fully responsible for steel production during the shutdown of BOF vessel No. 2.

Earlier, the Out-of-Furnace Steel Treatment Shop successfully overhauled Ladle Furnace No. 1 (LF-1), one of two units designed to bring steel in a ladle to the specified temperature and chemical composition before casting on continuous casting machines.

As a result of the overhaul, the CCM-1 operates in accordance with its passport characteristics, maintains stable process parameters and eliminates additional power consumption during the out-of-furnace steel treatment process.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Kamet-steel completed a 45-day overhaul of the mixer with re-lining in the BOF Shop. In the course of the work, more than 550 cubic metres of refractory masonry of the mixer body were completely replaced, key equipment, which can only be repaired during a complete long-term shutdown of the unit, was restored, and the aspiration system was comprehensively repaired and maintained.
