JSW Energy, an Indian energy company, is developing the country’s largest commercial 25 MW clean hydrogen project in Karnataka for JSW Steel. This is reported by NDTV Profit.
“The work on the 3,800 tonne per annum pilot project has started and is likely to be commissioned by the fourth quarter of fiscal 2025” said Sharad Mahendra, Joint Managing Director and CEO, JSW Energy.
The company, which is part of the JSW Group, is preparing to become the main green energy supplier for JSW Steel in the future. Given that the hydrogen project is located at the latter’s plant, it was possible to save on storage costs.
According to Mahendra, projects without storage are 20-25% cheaper than those located far from the customer and requiring storage.
The company has also received 6.8 thousand tons of capacity per year from the Solar Energy Corp. of India under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition program.
According to Mahendra, JSW Energy does not intend to limit itself to domestic hydrogen projects, but plans to become a leading supplier of green hydrogen and its derivatives at the commercial level, as well as to make its products cost-effective.
As GMK Center reported earlier, the British industrial group GFG Alliance has signed a new agreement with the South Australian government to supply green hydrogen to its local steel mill from a 250 MW electrolyzer under construction near the city of Wyalla. Commercial operation is scheduled for early 2026.
