Interpipe supplies pipes for offshore gas production in the Black Sea for the first time

Ukrainian industrial company Interpipe has manufactured pipes for offshore use for the first time, supplying products for the South Akçakoca Sub-Basin (SASB) gas field in the Black Sea. The project is being implemented by a Turkish client who is laying pipes directly underwater in shallow water, the company said in a statement.

Especially for this facility, Interpipe has manufactured tubing with the premium UPJ-M connection, which provides a high level of gas tightness. This connection is a proprietary development of the company, adapted for the difficult conditions of subsea production.

“Turkey is currently actively developing offshore gas fields in the Black Sea. However, the production conditions are specific, with gas being produced in shallow water, so increased gas tightness is required, which can be provided by premium connections,” said Artem Artemov, Interpipe’s Director of Sales for the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

According to him, although this is the company’s first experience in offshore pipe rolling, the installation of pipes at the facility has already been completed and the products are operating successfully. The successful implementation has become an important milestone for Interpipe, opening the door to participation in other offshore gas production projects.

As a reminder, Interpipe has recently started supplying 127 mm diameter casing pipes to Italy, where the products will be used in the salt industry in the province of Pisa, Tuscany region. These pipes are manufactured in accordance with the international API 5CT standard, which guarantees their compliance with high requirements for reliability, corrosion resistance and strength.

Interpipe is a global manufacturer of steel pipes and railway products that supplies more than 50 countries. In 2024, the company sold 511 thousand tons of pipes and 115 thousand tons of railway products. The total number of employees is about 9.5 thousand, of whom more than a thousand are currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Last year, Interpipe paid UAH 5.5 billion in taxes, a record amount in the company’s history.
