Interpipe supplies pipes for a highly complex project at an altitude of 3,000 meters in the Alps

Ukrainian industrial company Interpipe has become a supplier of seamless pipes for a large-scale engineering and architectural project in the Swiss Alps. This is stated in the company’s press release.

The project involves the reconstruction of the observation tower at the Titlis ski resort in the municipality of Engelberg, located at an altitude of over 3,000 meters above sea level. By 2026, the structure is planned to be transformed into a modern tourist center with restaurants, bars, and exhibition spaces.

The delivery includes linear pipes made of S355J2H steel in accordance with EN 10210-1/2. This type of steel provides high structural strength, which is especially necessary in mountainous areas with constant wind, low temperatures, soil erosion, and heavy snowfall.

Such pipes have a high strength-to-weight ratio, which allows for the creation of lightweight, visually “airy” structures. They are also widely used in the construction of bridges, offshore platforms, shipbuilding, as well as in machine and tool building to ensure reliability under dynamic loads.

«Over the past few years, we have supplied pipes for many construction projects across Europe. But this project is special. We are proud that our high-quality steel will ensure the safety and durability of the structure in such extreme conditions,» says Marcel Schmitz, Interpipe’s pipe sales manager for the European market.

This project is significant for the company not only from an engineering point of view, but also from a cultural one. Combining industry with contemporary art is part of Interpipe’s philosophy. The company’s main plant, Interpipe Steel in Dnipro, features five large-scale installations by Danish artist Olafur Eliasson. Therefore, participation in the creation of a new architectural object in the heart of the Swiss Alps is another opportunity to implement this approach at the international level.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Interpipe is constantly expanding its presence in the global market. The company recently began supplying casing pipes to Italy for the salt industry, manufactured its first pipes for offshore gas production in the Black Sea, and mastered the production of super-heavy pipes weighing over 3 tons. In addition, Interpipe is actively developing its passenger wheel business in Europe, complementing its successful presence in the freight rolling stock segment.

Interpipe is a global producer of steel pipes and railway products, supplying more than 50 countries worldwide. In 2024, the company sold 511,000 tons of pipes and 115,000 tons of railway products. The total number of employees is about 9,500, of which more than a thousand currently serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Last year, Interpipe paid UAH 5.5 billion in taxes, a record amount in the company’s history.
