The UPJ-QR semi-premium threaded connection allows you to double the speed of casing string descent and minimizes the risk of skewing during pipe screwing
Ukrainian industrial company Interpipe continues to expand its range of high-tech threaded connections for the energy sector. For over ten years, the company has been developing premium and semi-premium solutions under the UPJ brand, which have already gained the trust of consumers in various regions of the world, from the Middle East and Central Asia to North and South America, according to a press release.
The latest development from the company’s R&D team, the UPJ-QR (Quick Run) semi-premium threaded connection, is designed for quick screwing of large-diameter pipes. This type of connection is used in surface and intermediate casing strings in oil and gas wells and is an improved alternative to the traditional API Buttress thread.
The first pipe strings with UPJ-QR connections have already been successfully used at a gas condensate field in Ukraine. Tests have confirmed that the complete assembly of a 339.7 mm diameter pipe takes only 20 seconds and requires 4-5 turns, while Buttress threads in similar conditions require 10-15 turns and several minutes of work.
«The driving force behind Interpipe’s new developments is often the desire to solve a problem faced by customers. This time, we focused on the difficulties of assembling large-diameter oil and gas columns, namely, skewing during pipe installation. The new UPJ-QR connection has a wider thread pitch and a greater taper angle of the thread profile. This design ensures easy fitting, high resistance to skewing during screwing, and increased joint strength,» said Yuriy Kuratsapov, head of Interpipe’s technical sales support and field service department.
As GMK Center reported earlier, Interpipe is actively expanding its presence in export markets. The company has entered the segment of supplies for drilling equipment in Europe, supplied pipes for the construction of an offshore wind farm in France and specialized micropiles for the reconstruction of a bridge in Slovakia. The company also develops wheels for railways in the Middle East and Asia, and supplies products for energy and construction projects in Switzerland and Romania. Diversification of its portfolio allows the company to strengthen its position in high-tech industries and reduce dependence on traditional markets.
