Interpipe fulfills contract to supply 10 thousand railway wheels to India

Ukrainian industrial company Interpipe has completed a major contract for the supply of railway wheels for Indian Railways, an Indian state-owned enterprise. The total volume of deliveries amounted to 10 thousand wheels, which were shipped ahead of schedule at the end of 2024. This is stated in the company’s press release.

The annual contract provided for the supply of wheels with a diameter of 1000 mm, which are used in gondola cars and boxcars of the BOXN Wagon type. This is the first major order from Indian Railways after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which made it strategically important for Interpipe.

However, the contract was accompanied by logistical challenges. Most of the wheel volumes were shipped through European seaports, while the last batches went through Ukrainian ones. The shipping crisis in the Red Sea led to an increase in transit time to India, as the newly rebuilt route involved navigation around Africa. Nevertheless, all lots of products were delivered to the customer on time.

Despite these challenges, the company completed all deliveries on time. Aleksandr Garkavij, Railway Products Division Director at Interpipe, noted that Interpipe has been a reliable partner of Indian Railways for more than 25 years.

“This large one-year order was the first since the full-scale Russian invasion into Ukraine began, so it was extremely important for us to fulfill it successfully and ahead of schedule. In January, 2025, we received the next order from Indian Railways, and in general, this year we plan to double the volume of freight wheel deliveries to the railway operator,” he emphasized.

Despite the military challenges, Interpipe continues to invest in production facilities. During the war, the company invested $83 million in product quality and new production lines, including a pipe rolling shop in Nikopol. The company is committed to meeting the demands of customers around the world.

Interpipe is an international vertically integrated pipe and wheel company that ranks among the top 10 seamless pipe producers in the world and among the top 3 producers of all-rolled railway wheels.
