In February 2025, seasonally adjusted industrial production in the European Union (EU) increased by 1% compared to the previous month. In the euro area, the figure increased by 1.2% m/m. This is evidenced by preliminary data from Eurostat.
Compared to February 2024, industrial production in the euro area increased by 1.2%, and in the EU – by 0.6%.
Among the EU member states, the highest monthly growth was recorded in Ireland (+10.8%), Belgium (+7.4%) and Luxembourg (+6.3%). The largest declines were observed in Croatia (-3.9%), Greece (-3.6%) and Romania (-2.1%).
On an annualized basis, industrial production in February 2025 increased the most in Ireland (+38.8%), Lithuania (+9.1%) and Luxembourg (+6.6%). The largest decrease was observed in Hungary (-8.0%), Bulgaria (-4.7%) and Germany (-3.7%).
Energy production in the euro area in February fell by 0.2% m/m and increased by 1.4% y/y. In the EU, energy production increased by 0.8% m/m and 1.4% y/y in the same period.
According to revised data, in January, industrial production in the euro area increased by 0.6% m/m and decreased by 0.5% y/y, and in the EU – increased by 0.1% m/m and decreased by 0.6% y/y.
As GMK Center reported earlier, the European Steel Association EUROFER has revised its forecast for apparent steel consumption in the EU in 2025, lowering the expected growth to +2.2% from the previous +3.8%. This reflects the ongoing difficulties in the sector amid global economic instability, high energy costs and growing imports.
