India approves six new steel projects in Odisha

The government of the Indian state of Odisha has approved 10 industrial projects worth 74.62 thousand crore rupees (about $9 billion), six of which are metallurgical. It is reported by BusinessToday.In.

It is planned to create more than 24,000 jobs due to the implementation of projects in the state. In addition to metallurgy, the projects also include the production of green hydrogen and ammonia, as well as infrastructure programs.

Indian industrial companies such as Tata Group, Arcelormittal Nippon Steel and Adani group are among the largest investors.

Thus, the committee approved the proposal to set up green hydrogen for 20,000 tons per year and ammonia (100,000 tons per year) plants in Paradip. These enterprises should provide jobs for 2 thousand people. The projects will be useful for steel industry, and also will have a positive impact on the environment.

Tata Steel has received approval the setting up a plant for 6 thousand tons of steel, as well as infrastructure for the production of equipment for steel plants for 60 thousand tons. This project should create 2.4 thousand additional jobs.

Adani Enterprises will be able to build an alumina plant with a capacity of 4 million tons of products per year. In addition, a steel plant with a capacity of 2.5 million tons of steel per year will be built by Orissa Alloy Steel Pvt Ltd.

The authorities also agreed on setting up a beneficiation plant with a capacity of 6 million tons per year and a slurry pipeline with a capacity of 12 million tons per year by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India. Sompuri Infrastructures Pvt Ltd was allowed to build a pellet plant with the capacity of 24 million tons of products per year, and a filtration shop with a capacity of 6 million tons per year.

“The Odisha government is giving special attention to sectors with high employment such as metallurgy and steel processing,” the statement informs.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in the Indian state of Odisha in the east of the country at least 12 steel mills with a production capacity of 60 million tons per year will be built. Currently, there are 51 steel plants in Odisha with a production capacity of 33.1 million tons per year.

Also, the Indian Ministry of Steel entrusted to state steel plants to increase capacity by at least 80%, to 45 million tons per year by 2030. The current capacity is 25 million tons per year.
