Imports of goods into Ukraine have risen by 29%, while exports – by 3.6% over the past five months

In January–May, imports of goods into Ukraine totaled $40.5 billion, while exports amounted to $17.5 billion. Over the first five months of 2026, imports increased by 29.4% compared to the same period last year, while exports rose by just 3.6%. This was reported by the State Customs Service.

The largest volumes of exports from Ukraine went to Poland ($2 billion), Turkey ($1.5 billion), and Italy ($1.1 billion).

The top three goods exported from Ukraine were:

  1. Food products – $10.6 billion.
  2. Metals and metal products – $1.7 billion.
  3. Machinery, equipment, and transportation – $1.5 billion.

Taxed imports over the five-month period totaled $27.8 billion, accounting for 69% of the total volume of imported goods. The largest importers of goods to Ukraine were: China – $11.1 billion, Poland – $3.9 billion, and Turkey – $2.7 billion.

Of the total volume of goods imported in January–May 2026, 72% consisted of the following categories:

  1. Machinery, equipment, and transportation – $17 billion.
  2. Fuel and energy – $6.4 billion.
  3. Chemical industry products – $5.7 billion.

In January–May 2026, during customs clearance of exports subject to export duties, UAH 744.3 million was paid to the state budget.

As a reminder, Ukraine’s trade turnover for January–December 2025 totaled $125.1 billion. Last year, the country imported goods worth $84.8 billion and exported goods worth $40.3 billion.
