Imports of hot-dip galvanized rolled steel (HDG) to Ukraine in January-June 2025 increased by 60% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 147,000 tons. This is according to a study by Metipol.
During the second quarter, import volumes increased by 44.6% year-on-year and by 30.3% quarter-on-quarter, reaching 83,140 tons.
In the import structure, supplies from Turkey accounted for 86% or 126,810 tons at the end of the first half of the year, which is 83.6% year-on-year. The EU supplied 12.69 thousand tons of hot-dip galvanized rolled steel (-11.3% y-o-y) to the Ukrainian market, Vietnam supplied 3.83 thousand tons (+39% y-o-y), and China supplied 1.68 thousand tons (-26.9% y-o-y).
Prices for Turkish galvanized steel fell slightly in the second quarter. The increase in the cost of European steel is mainly due to the strengthening of the euro against the dollar. Vietnamese steel, with similar characteristics to Turkish steel, remains more expensive.
In the first half of 2025, 554.05 thousand tons of imported flat rolled steel were supplied to the Ukrainian market, which is 16.8% more than in the same period of 2024. About 50% of imports are coated flat products (HS – 7210) – 263.26 thousand tons, which is 17.2% more than last year.
