Exports of flat steel products from Ukraine rose by 10.6% y/y in January–February

In January–February 2026, Ukraine’s steel companies increased their exports of flat steel products by 10.6% compared to the same period in 2025, reaching 321,120 metric tons. This is according to calculations by the GMK Center based on data from the State Customs Service.

Flat hot-rolled steel (HS Code 7208) accounted for over 82% of exports—265,830 metric tons, an increase of 11.5% year-over-year. The main consumers of the products during the period were Poland – 85.1 thousand tons, Bulgaria – 58.18 thousand tons, and Italy – 26.64 thousand tons.

Another 14.7% of shipments, or 47,180 tons (+12.9% y/y), consisted of cold-rolled flat products (HS 7209). The main consumer of the product is Poland – 22.24 thousand tons. 6.09 thousand tons were exported to Bulgaria and 1.28 thousand tons to Italy.

During this period, 7.79 thousand tons of coated flat products (HS 7210) were exported, which is 2.4% less year-on-year. 6.53 thousand tons of these products were shipped to Poland, and 1 thousand tons to Romania.

In February, Ukrainian steelmakers exported 163,590 tons of flat-rolled products, which is 21.3% more y/y and 3.9% more m/m. Shipments of hot-rolled flat products totaled 136,870 tons (+26% y/y; +6.1% m/m), cold-rolled flat products – 23,130 tons (+5.1% y/y; -3.8% m/m), and coated flat products – 7.79 thousand tons (-20.5% y/y; -25.5% m/m).

Revenue from flat steel exports rose by 20.5% year-over-year in January–February, reaching $185.61 million, while in February it increased by 14% year-over-year and decreased by 1% month-over-month, reaching $92.33 million.

As reported by GMK Center, in 2025 Ukraine increased its exports of flat-rolled steel by 11.2% compared to 2024, reaching 1.82 million tons. Over 82% of exports consisted of hot-rolled flat products (HS 7208) — 1.51 million tons, which is 10.5% more year-over-year. Revenue from flat steel exports for the year increased by 3.9% year-over-year, to $1.05 billion.
