The key project is preparation for the construction of an EAF
The Czech company Nova Hut, which has officially controlled the former Liberty Ostrava steelworks since October last year, plans to invest up to CZK 150 million in 2026. This is stated in the company’s report.
According to Nova Hut’s production and technical director, Ivo Hmelik, they will focus on modernizing production, upgrading equipment, and using energy more efficiently.
A key strategic project is the preparation for the construction of an electric arc furnace (EAF) worth approximately CZK 17 billion. This long-term project is supported by a subsidy from the Ministry of the Environment’s Modernization Fund.
In addition, the company intends to implement a number of operationally important investments this year. These include reducing energy consumption and emissions, utilizing waste heat in hot rolling lines, modernizing technologies and improving the quality of products with higher added value, and improving working conditions.
Nova Hut has also planned a major overhaul of its rotary furnace.
«These investments are not a reaction to the short-term situation, but part of a long-term strategy to ensure the competitiveness, stability, and sustainable future of the company,» the statement said.
It should be recalled that Nova Hut considered the possibility of building an electric arc furnace last fall. The project is part of a long-term strategy to modernize the enterprise and transition to more sustainable and energy-efficient steel production.
