In March, construction output fell by 9.4% y/y
The volume of construction work completed in Ukraine in January–March 2026 decreased by 4.7% compared to the same period last year, totaling 40.2 billion hryvnias. This is according to data from the State Statistics Service.
In March, construction volumes fell by 9.4% compared to the same month last year, with residential construction decreasing by 16.2%, non-residential construction by 13.4%, and civil engineering structures by 3.7%. Construction volumes in March increased by 32.3% compared to February, with residential construction up 28%, non-residential buildings up 36.6%, and engineering structures up 30.6%.
The main factors behind the decline in construction volumes were prolonged power outages and weather conditions that limited work at construction sites.
The share of new construction in the total volume of completed construction work in March was 48.4%, repairs accounted for 28.8%, and reconstruction and other work accounted for 22.8%.
According to seasonally adjusted data, the indices in March were:
- residential construction: 51.7% (adjusted for calendar days: 49%);
- non-residential construction: 130.5% (adjusted for calendar days: 103.7%);
- civil engineering: 119.5% (adjusted for calendar days — 81%).
At the same time, the industry is seeing a significant increase in the cost of construction work. Construction prices rose by 9.4% in March compared to February. On an annual basis (March 2026 to March 2025), the increase was 16.4%.
As reported by GMK Center, the volume of construction work completed in Ukraine in 2025 increased by 12% year-on-year, to UAH 248 billion. For the second year in a row, the industry’s growth rate has slowed: in 2023 and 2024, the rate was 25% year-on-year and 15.5% year-on-year, respectively.
By segment, the increase in construction output last year was as follows: non-residential construction—up 27.4% year-on-year, to UAH 81.1 billion; residential construction—up 13.6% year-on-year, to UAH 33.2 billion; civil engineering—up 3.6% year-on-year, to UAH 134 billion.
