The goal of the upgrade is to optimize rolling performance and upgrade hardware

The Polish producer of graded rolled products CMC Poland (a division of the American Commercial Metals Company) signed a contract with Danieli Automation for the modernization of the rolling mill at the factory in the city of Zawertze. It is stated in Danieli’s message.

The enterprise produces 500,000 tons of bars and wire rods per year. The purpose of the upgrade is to optimize the rolling performance, as well as upgrade the hardware.

To improve operation and maintainability, new low-voltage inverter drives will be installed for the rough and intermediate sections of the rolling mill. Special attention will be paid to heating the workpieces in the heating furnace of the company’s smelting shop to precise temperatures. There, the hardware and software of the level 1 automation system will be updated. A new process control system will also be delivered to automatically adjust the heating curves of the furnace.

The update will be completed by the end of 2023.

As GMK Center reported earlier, the shipment of CMC Poland steel in the third quarter 2022/2023 financial year (to May 2023) fell by 10% y/y. However, this result is not bad, taking into account the high comparative base – in 2022, a surge in purchases was observed after the invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine. The supply of steel products in this period decreased by 8% in annual terms – to 283 thousand short tons, rebar – by 14% y/y, to 146 thousand tons. The average selling price in this period fell by 22% – to $753 per short ton.
