Canadian business is evaluating the possibility of investment in the logistics of Ukraine

Canadian businesses are considering opportunities to invest in the Ukrainian transportation industry. This was discussed at a meeting of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade with Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine Natalie Tsmoc, the Ministry said.

The parties discussed the main priorities for the restoration and development of the Ukrainian transport industry and the attraction of private capital.

The Ministry already has a successful experience of cooperation with Canada, in particular within the framework of the SURGe Project, a project funded by the Canadian government.

«At the same time, the transport sector remains one of the most attractive investment opportunities, even despite the war, and we are focusing our attention on increasing the export capacity of land and waterways, both in the long and short term,» said Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine, Minister of Community Development, Territorial and Infrastructure Development.

Currently, Canada is considering rail transportation, including multimodal transportation, modernization of Ukrainian Black Sea ports and development of land border crossings as the main areas for investment. It is also considering shipbuilding and assistance in the rapid restoration of civil aviation.

As GMK Center reported earlier, last November, Ukraine became a full-fledged participant in the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program, with the relevant agreement ratified by the Parliament. The CEF program is part of the Solidarity Roads initiative, and its implementation will help improve Ukraine’s transport links with the EU and establish exports to Europe as a whole. It will also allow attracting EU funding to support the development of trans-European networks in transport, energy, and digital services.
